Write about Pulmonary actinomycosis here. • Bacterial lung infection caused by actinomyces or propioni bacteria • Normally found in the mouth and GI tract • Causes lung cavities, lung nodules and pleural effusions • Can cross normal tissue boundaries of the chest producing sinus tracts - e.g. through the muscles and skin of the chest wall • Rare • Any age - though more commonly 30-60 • M>F Treatment: • Control of infection, but slow response - Prolonged therapy and drainage • Outcome is good following adequate ABx |
