Write about Necrobacillosis here. • Also known as Lemiere's disease • Unusual cause of lung abscess • Associated with a very characteristic clinical picture => • Young adult: • Severe sore throat • Cervical adenopathy due to infection with the anaerobe, Fusobacterium necrophorum • Associated with a local venulitis, followed by Septicaemic illness • Haematogenous spread of infection • Lungs frequently involved with multiple abscesses forming, often with a pleural empyema and evidence of infection elsewhere - e.g. septic arthritis, osteomyelitis • Prolonged anaerobic blood culture is required to identify the organism, which is sensitive to metronidazole |
